I did it! Tapering worked!
Well folks, I am happy to announce I got over the hump and now almost 2 days without drinking! I had tapered for 4 days and then quit and I had NO major withdrawal symptoms other than insomnia! Yeah for me! The ball and chain are gone at last! I AM FREE! I AM SO STOKED!
Going to my first AA meeting tomorrow.

Tapering isn't for everyone. But I made the decision to taper instead of cold turkey because I knew suddenly quitting would be a shock to my body after drinking heavily daily for 13 years. It takes iron willpower and the grace of God to taper successfully!
Great to hear! Congrats on 2 days; may you have many more to come!
Hope your 1st meeting goes well. I still remember mine pretty vividly. I was baffled and nervous about what to expect, but in my case it was a great experience. Had to walk a mile in a blizzard (uphill both ways? I can't remember...) and only three other people showed up, but it was the warmest welcome I've ever had from strangers.
I feel it necessary though to put the caution out there that tapering is not generally the most effective or safest way to cut through withdrawal, but clearly it can and did work. Glad you got through it painlessly, Eleni. Withdrawal's one of the worst experiences I've ever had to go through.
