Helped a guy carry an old typewriter up some stairs today...

and felt absolutely high afterward...just off of helping someone. Normally I would have still been asleep at the time it happened. I've found that I get a great feeling from helping others (with no painful repercussions). It's not all about me anymore. I don't want praise. I just want people to know that there is an insurmountable joy in helping others, even strangers, that far surpasses what lies in the bottom of a bottle. Thanks for reading.

Thank you for posting! It's very possible you "made the day" of the person with the typewriter as well. That's Karma! I can *feel* that in your post.

We can still get high without alcohol and drugs. I get the feeling that drugs and alcohol made it impossible for me to do it naturally.

Just bout everything in my experience far surpasses what lies anywhere inside of a bottle ..

Very nice .. I like to hear stories of voluntary servitude .. humility at its finest.

That's one piece of thinking that had been completely absent from my thinking until recently, that there are highs that cannot be had from using. That using blocks us from having.

I had the experience last week of helping someone, too, and it was indeed a high, a feeling like no other. I just felt absolutely full. With good stuff, good feelings.

It was truly a gift.

Thanks for sharing that good feeling with us CM. We did miss out on a lot of things while numb - but we're back now, and nothing can stop us.

A principled life. There's more where that came from. All the best.

It's the little things that mean so much. You did a good thing for yourself while helping someone else.

It does feel good. Not long ago I helped a neighbor and before not only would I have been to drunk at the time of day to help but I would have not wanted to. I would have looked at it as an intrusion to my drinking time. My drinking time was so precious to me. I see how selfish and insane that is now.

Maybe that person was starting a daily log about a journey they are starting and the first sentence they write is about the person that helped them carry the typewriter they are using.
