Enjoying silence!
Enjoying silence!
Today I have realised my own company is pretty good. While I was on the wine, I was always on the phone, ignoring my husband and hoping that I wasn't slurry I never liked my own company, my head was always to busy dealing with the drinking guilt!
This evening I have sat with the tv off, candles on and enjoyed the silence and enjoyed being alone with my thoughts.
Today I visited my mum for the first time since giving up (13days tomorrow and usually I would drink there and carry on when I got back. I left after two cups of tea and a nice chat. She gave me a gift for a friend of mine who has just had a baby. Some cute clothes for the baby and a bottle of wine for my friend. It's sitting on my kitchen table and I can honestly say it hasn't bothered me one bit. The old me would have drunk it and replaced it but the new me made herbal tea and was very grateful for sobriety!
Tomorrow is my day to quit smoking too, onwards and upwards!
Thanks to all who have read and commented on my posts it's meant a lot.

There certainly is a place for a bit of solitude.
Good effort with the cigarettes.
I gave up 35 years ago (debit side 35 years on benzos)
.........oh yes smoked a couple of joints about twenty years ago, to be honest
One day at a time works wonders.

Congrats on 13 days and enjoying your company, Apophylite!
That's really great achievement - to enjoy your company, and not being afraid to be alone with your own thoughts.
Way to go!

Lovely post! All the best with the quit smoking. I relapsed on that part last Wednesday and been smoking up a storm ever since. Argh. I've been on the patch off and on for like 3 years..mostly off ..with these little relapses between. I blamed the smoking on the drinking as that's usually when I picked up. Nope..not this time.
I think I'm decided to give Champix a go. What I've been doing with the patch obviously ain't working.
So great to hear you're feeling comfortable with you're own fine self.
