Like a Rock
Remember these days!!!
Stood there boldly
Sweatin' in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I'd never felt that strong
Like a rock
I was eighteen
Didn't have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock
My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock
Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin' ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock
And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams
Twenty years now
Where'd they go?
Twenty years
I don't know
Sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone
And sometimes late at night
When I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall
I recall
Like a rock. standin' arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Like a rock, carryin' the weight
Like a rock
Like a rock, the sun upon my skin
Like a rock, hard against the wind
Like a rock, I see myself again
Like a rock
Stay thirsty my friends .....thirsty for life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to SR, crownroyal. You're a great writer. I can relate to wondering where the years went; in my case I drank them away. I'm now looking forward to the rest of my life and making the most of it by staying sober and moving forward - thirsty for life indeed!

Louise82-
wish I could take credit for this.....But I must give it to Bob Seager...... Its never to late I just turned 50 and feel like my whole life is ahead of me ))) Truly any time spent worrying about the past is just an emotion that continues to keep you from the future. When I do find myself looking back I remember the good things....like my mother's homemade bread with butter she made from skimming the milk from our cow, the feeling of the last day of school and the anticipation of 3 months of summer vacation, that first kiss in the pool that lasted 2 hours........
Sobriety is easy once you start to value your life more than being drunk. I do miss my bottle of Crown that I drank each day.......but not as much as I missed my "Life"
Thanks for the kind words-
CR

Oh I see, I'll have to check out some more of his stuff. It's great to hear about where you're at now with your sobriety, how you're enjoying your life and are able to look back clearly at the genuinely good times. I'm back on day 6 and looking forward to everything that's ahead of me, so it's very encouraging to read this: "Sobriety is easy once you start to value your life more than being drunk". I believe I'm finally at the tipping point where I want life more than I want to drink.

Id love to encourage you, quote god, send you a token celebrating a goal reached, but if your a true drinker you know that none of these things will work ......your going to drink until your ready to stop !!!! God, Family, Support or any amount of encouragement is useless. Sounds harsh but its the truth....some of us reach that point before its too late some never do and perish.
I'm at the point where someone can pour Crown Royal over my favorite Ice Cubes, You know the kind....big....square and very pure, in my favorite glass, splash some coke on top, set it in front of me and all I can think about is how good I feel without it....how life has not changed but gotten back to normal......The desire to live that way overpowers any desire to drink!! And I promise you that I could have never gotten to this point without starting to value my life more than the drink- )))))

<<< Add me to that list !! Bob Seger was a wonderful story teller and had a way of making his music sound as though it was written for EACH of us individually Thanks for sharing that great song crownroyal !!!
