Slavery from Within
Slavery from Within
There are two forms of slavery. The first and the most abhorrent to any civilized people is the subjection of one human being to another. There is a remedy, however. Rebellion, escape, flight to another land where freedom is possible, where no person may be the possession of another.
But there is another kind of slavery with no geographical solution, no exit by rebellion, no crusade for equality. This slavery comes from within. Which gradually rots the brain into dependence on alcohol or some other substance. I found I could not escape from this by going anywhere else or by revolt or rebellion. Rebellion merely fed my addiction, strengthened my dependency. When a person becomes self enslaved the road back may be difficult indeed. Sometimes a person cannot do that alone. I found that I needed the help of others. Folks in the lifeboat to throw me a rope. I might never have made it to shore by trying to swim there alone.

For me that lifeboat Is AA over 30 years ago and I'm still aboard but for the Grace of God, even if some reject a spiritual program. For fun they might look up the word. I'm still not a religious person but believe in a Power greater than ME. BE WELL
I picked up on the word rebellion or in my case,
rebellious.
I'm that person who likes to challenge or resist
authority and break the rules every now and then.
I'm telling you now, don't tell me what to do. lol
I picked up this horrible defect of character as
a child and have carried it into my adult life. However,
since entering recovery 22 yrs ago, I picked up many
useful and helpful tools and important knowledge
to replace my addiction to alcohol.
What alcohol use to do for me, like numbing my
feelings, Ive replaced it with a more calming,
serene, effective method to incorporate and
live by each day.
What serene method is that you ask?
I go get a tattoo. lol
I'm no slave to tattoos.
