Having a look around....

Happy Tuesday!

As I said in my title, I'm having a look around to see if I can figure out where I am and what I need.

Things I know for sure:

* My drinking can no longer be labeled as 'social'
* I am tired of how I feel from it
* I am tired of my kids seeing me drinking (even one drink)
* I work out like crazy only to toss it all away for cocktails
* I'm not religious and am not interested in that road. I think it's wonderful for those who this road does work for but it's just not for me.

So that's it for now.. thanks for taking the time to read my post. I hope to hear from you.

Welcome to SR phoenix

You are sure to find lots of good info and support here. I for one hated my drinking long before I had the courage to quit. This place really helped with that. I hope you find what you're looking for x

Welcome! Come on in, the water's fine!

I agree with your fear of AA, still haven't gone but from this group I have done more research and there's a lot of stuff out there that makes sense about being sober.

Welcome to SR and happy Tuesday to you too! Having a look around here is a great idea. There's so much information on various recovery methods on these forums, including in the secular connection forum.

and i felt the same as you.
Religion was not going to solve my problem. But AA sure did.
It was the only thing that worked.

Give it a try if nothing else works

Hi. I've been in AA many years and it's worked for millions who want to get and stay sober. It is NOT a religious organization. There are meetings that operate outside the guide lines of the Traditions but most meetings use: "AA is not allied with any sect, denomination or politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety." Many still will find excuses not to go so I say how is your way, in the long run working for you. Forums like this are good for a lot of us however for me I need flesh meetings also. BE WELL

I meant no disrespect for AA or those in the program. I've been to meetings many times to support some people close to me and it just wasn't for me. Thank you for your message. I appreciate you taking the time to write.

Take care.
