Hello All
Hello All
Just a quick hello and introduction. I'm a 35 years old, began drinking in my early 20's. I'm married and have 2 dogs, 1 cat and a wonderful husband. My alcohol use is affecting my mental health as well as physical health. As I write this I've been sober for 7 days. The cravings are getting better but the depression and anxiety are hitting pretty hard. That's it for now.
Hey desertsweetpea ,
Glad to have you along . Alcohol is a depressant , took about 6 months after giving up before a depressive mood i'd suffered for years lifted .
The only way to find out if alcohol is adding to whats going on is to stay quit ,
good luck
Bestwishes, m

Hi DSP,
Our stories are similar - Im a couple years older than you but am married to a wonderful man too. I have come to the conclusion that I have to quit drinking now for the sake of our future together but mainly for my own health. As you rightly say even though the physical damage is appalling I think the hurt we do to our mental health is really underestimated by society at large. Im on day 6, my fourth day 6 in just over a year, but this time I mean it to be my last. For now all I'm trusting in is what some of the wise folks on SR have repeated to all us newcomers - IT WILL GET BETTER. I've got to have faith it that. Good luck!

Hi sweetpea,
Welcome. This place is very helpful. I am on Day 13 and I can relate to the anxiety and depression. From all I have learned thus far, these feelings are to be expected. I just keep telling myself that good days are ahead. I just need to be strong and focus on staying sober (I go to AA and post here).
I also have started working out and eating better. The old adage "one day at a time" I think is very helpful too. It is so much easier to focus on making today a good day. Forget about the distant future.
Do the best you can today to feel good and stay away from booze, but know that your life will get better little by little.
You can do it!
