day two sober

I have been a binge drinker for the last 12 years and have tried over and over to stop. I say Ill have two and it turns into 10. Once I start I don't want to stop. I like the way I feel. I don't like the way I feel the next two or three days. then by day 5 or 6 I do it again. well I have come to the realization I cannot social drink as I was able to do in the past. I have to NOT DRINK AT ALL.

Welcome to SR Lawson. There is a lot of support and information here.

Abstinence is the only solution for me. The first drink got me drunk. Congrats on day 2. Hang in there.

Welcome. Nice work on setting up your determination to quit - and announcing that you're simply not going to do this anymore. It took me a while to realize that, I always struggled with trying to "cut down" instead of just do the right thing and quit. You have a big journey ahead of you - what are you going to do differently to quit for good this time?

Best of luck!

Hi Lawson,

Your story sounds just like mine, except I kept trying moderation for over 36 years.

I could get myself down to one or two. Then I would reward myself with another one for finally getting it under control. Or drink 'cause I felt bad. Then drink when I felt good.

Drinking all the time, thinking I had control. It gets harder to quit after each relapse.

The fear, anxiety, insomnia, self-loathing and countless other negative feelings take much longer to subside. The hangovers get worse too.

Remember how bad you feel today as incentive not to drink tomorrow.

Good luck on Day 3.

Welcome Lawson. You sound just like me. Though once I started I went on for 3-4 days...

I can not be a moderate drinker. I tried many times. Every now and then it works but always leads to binge drinking in the end.

I hope you stick with us. Lots of support here!
