One month sober!

So today makes thirty days of no drinking or smoking. I feel worried I might mess up this weekend. I used to tear it up on the weekends. But I will plan to exercise and study, cook some good food. I hope everyone has a good weekend. This is the longest I have gone without a drink, but I am craving cigarettes today. Maybe I can reward myself with something today with the money I have saved.

Woo hoo!!!

30 days is amazing! And I think the idea of turning what would've been your boozing money into something rewarding is an excellent idea.

Good idea to be cautious for the weekend. Careful you don't go too far with it; thinking of how you *could* slip is what I think of as just "peeking inside." You've done 30, you can do two more.

Wishing you all the best on your first month of sobriety. Is there anyone safe to have dinner out with or go to a movie or something? Do you go to a gym or do you exercise alone?

Super tremendous Acheleus!!!!!

I believe you will conquer the weekend without alcohol or cigarettes!

Maybe try a nicotine gum or lozenge?
I have grown fond of the gum.

That is awesome Acheleus, 30 Days!!!!

Stay strong this weekend. Remember that booze never has a good reward. I like the idea of buying yourself something with the money you saved, and getting outdoors, cooking great food...etc.

You are awesome, keep it going!!!

Yea I exercise alone. I am going to try and not get bored, but the longer I go the more confident I feel that I am not an alki and I can moderate, but that ain't true. So I have to be vigilant this weekend. Going to the beach is a trigger for me and I might be heading there Monday, so I have to be careful this summer. Thank you for the encouragement guys. Any ideas for dealing with loneliness and boredom? I don't know anyone in this town, so it kind of sucks to be alone all the time, but I will get by.

It always helps me to go to a bookstore or a park where others are when I am feeling lonely. It gets me around people in a laid back type of situation where I choose to chat, or not. Just being in the presence of others, enjoying a book, sipping a coffee, window shopping, walking in the park... it does help.

What about buying a gym membership with all that cash you haven't wasted on alcohol? Isolation and lonelieness can be really dangerous to sobriety. Although I'm not utilizing AA, I have that in my back pocket in case I just need to get out and SEE people and hear their stories. You don't have to say anything or do anything...but it's PEOPLE...people who understand. Is that not an option?

Congrats Acheleus! I know it has been a trying month for you but you did it. It does get better from here on out.

I also do what Jennie describes above when I get lonely because it is a mellow situation that I can choose to participate in or not. Most important thing is not getting caught up in my head where those tricky thoughts of "Maybe I am really not a drunk" still reside. Whatever I can do to stay out of my head, I do. However mundane or seemingly ineffective at the moment.

You are an inspiration and I look for your posts daily. Keep going, you'll get through this weekend!

Way to go on 30 days!!!

Have you been to the Nicotine part of the forums around here?.... it's starting to pick up and there are a few others working on quitting cigarettes as well. You might pop in and get/give a little support over there.

Whatever you do... don't pick up a smoke!! 1/2 of all smokers will die from it if they don't quit. Those aren't awfully friendly odds. And the 1/2 that don't die from it still spend loads of money, and time on it and suffer other health consequences from it.

It will get better. I promise. I'll have 6 months no cigarettes in a few days and it's been so worth it!!

Definitely buy something nice with the saved money! You deserve it!
