Go to bed sober the first night. Then go to bed sober the second night, see the pattern? Lizella, everyone here does it differently for different reasons, but this place, the people here, it's like some kind of alchemy. As individuals, we may lack the strength, the direction the intent, the will power, even the tools, but coming here, finding out methods of attaining and maintaining sobriety, reading heart rending stories, writing silly limericks, keeping company with others taking the same steps at the same time, it all adds up to something so much more than the sum of its parts.
There is real love here, understanding and a million people willing you on, lending a hand when you struggle, reaching out for your support when they are troubled. This is not a site. This is a community.
Be strong, be safe, be sober

At the end of the day I had to want to be sober more than I wanted to be drunk. I finally reached that point.

Being drunk all the time was no way to live.

When I finally wanted to be sober more than I wanted to drink, then I was able to stay sober. It is possible. Don't give up.

It's not how we did it...it's how are you going to do it. What are you doing to advance your sobriety beyond wishing for it? Are you seeking support? Looking into recovery methods that suit your temperament? Learning about your addiction and ways to overcome it?

Wanting to be sober is great. But wanting isn't doing. Are you lacking the doing? Because it can be done. Don't give up.

There are no secrets. You simply have to want sobriety and commit to it. It is not easy, and there is no magic formula to make it happen. But then again, not many things worth having in life are easy to obtain.

Everyone has the potential to be sober, you are no exception.

Last bad craving I had I thought about how I would feel when I drank, and it honestly didn't seem that much different/happier than being sober, and that squashed my bad craving pretty quick. I also think getting informed will help you understand why you are feeling what you are feeling.

There really is no secret Lizella.

I finally accepted I could never drink again - I did everything I had to to make that happen.

Pure fear of what will happen if I fail. Made it 4 months but I can't go on forever like this. Going to actually take some advice from SR posters and choose a recovery method. Not into that God thing, read through the 12 steps and I think they have merit. 12 step group for Agnostics available in my area. Yeah

I decided to try AA because I was so miserable and couldn't stop on my own. Believe me, I tried. And it's working. Like other people have already said, I don't take that first drink. If I do, there's no telling what will happen or when I will stop. Each night I get into bed I thank God for another sober day. I have over 7 months and hardly think about drinking. It's a miracle and you can have it too

I won't say it's a secret, but I'll share what was most important to me. Deciding that I would be a nondrinker for the rest of my life - and being completely okay with that decision. I KNEW it would turn out well, but it's turned out WAY better than I ever thought it would.

I knew that drinking was no longer an option for me. Once I accepted that, my mind began in new and healthy ways to cope with life.

No secret. I committed to AA and it has worked for me and millions of others for decades.

Google and read "AA's How It Works"

All the best.
