Please read

I've noticed that there are often times that brand new members are encouraged to look other places on the boards for advice. I understand the intentions are good but please allow people to move at their own pace. Oftentimes, new members are apologetic, believing they have posted in the wrong area. The Newcomers Forum is for any and all people at anytime to discuss any topic regarding recovery. Our only concern is that we don't want debates about recovery topics. It's good to let people know about the other forums, as long as we continue to make them feel welcome here.

Thanks all!

Good suggestion. I've referred folks to Friends and Family before and sure wouldn't want to discourage them.

I also refer people to F and F, as well as other forums. Should I not do that?

Of course, it's good to refer people, at the same time ensuring them they are welcome to continue posting here. Some of the newbies are very vulnerable and I want them to feel that they can hang out here too.

I've sometimes recommended the newcomers section if a newbie posts in the alcoholism section purely because the newcomers section tends to be more fast moving and gets more responses sooner.Sorry if I've ever come across as unwelcoming

No, that's a great thing to do.

Sometimes when newbies bypass this forum they post in other forums that are less busy and they feel ignored. The Newcomers forum is always a good place to get lots of replies.
