I lost my best friend today
I had to put my girl down today. She developed pancreatitis in September of last year. The bouts had become more frequent, and she also had severe arthritis in her hips so I knew it was time. Her name was Abby and she was 16...the best pet I've ever had.

I'm so sorry. My little friend had pancreatitis bad two years ago, she almost didn't make it. She's 13 now and I dread the day..

Sorry for your loss Grungehead. Pets can be our best buddies especially in early recovery, they stick by you through everything, always loving, never judging. Their loss can be devastating. Prayers for you and Abby.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I was sober today. I was there for her and my parents in mind as well as body. And instead of numbing myself up with alcohol afterwards I went to a meeting. I sat on the floor and she went to sleep in my arms. It was sad yet spiritual in a way. I knew she was no longer in pain and she went peacefully while I held her and stroked her to sleep.

Grunge I'm so sorry about Abby, she was a gorgeous looking dog. I have a poodle-shiitzu cross who thinks he's as tall as Abby was. Good for you for being with her right to the end, it's an incredibly special moment isn't it. Thinking of you.

You made me cry. I also had to put down my Beavey in February due to tongue cancer. She was my Momma Weez and best friend. I was drunk when I took her to the vet because it was so hard to deal with.
I looked her in the eyes and I swear there were stars. She left with dignity, I left ashamed.

My deepest condolences Grungehead. As I lay here on my bed with my best friend...I cannot imagine the emptiness and profound sadness I would feel should she have to go. Your best buddy is now out of pain and is in peace. My heart feels for you...
