One of the main reasons I drink, is because I have social anxiety. I feel like I am not myself and I'm not my fun self if I am not drinking. I don't know if this is due to social anxiety, or just alcohol calms your nerves so you can relax and be yourself??

There are a lot of reasons people drink, and that is most likely one of them. Having said that, why you drink or drank is not really all that important. What is important is realizing that you have a problem if you do, and then figuring out a path to recover.

I read a lot from folks who cite social anxiety as the main reason they drink. But when I look at some of their posts, the extent of their drinking seems to exceed overcoming a little social anxiety.

Maybe you started drinking because of anxiety. Maybe you tell yourself that you need to drink now to address anxiety. But the extent of your abuse seems way out of proportion to what you hope to relieve.

I drank cause of anxiety too. But all that did was make the anxiety worse. I'm glad I gave it up. My anxiety isn't nearly as bad as it was when I was drinking.
