Scared and anxious
I keep trying to quit drinking but keep failing. I went to the doctor for a physical because I just haven't felt good. I know a big part of it is my heavy drinking. However I found out my iron is extremely low. Surprisingly my liver function all looked good. The doctor didn't ask if I drink so I didn't say anything. I know I should have but just couldn't bring myself to be honest without prompting. Today at work I flat out couldn't remember that I had done something. I felt like an idiot when my boss told me I had sent it to him already. I've never ever gone to work drunk so that couldn't have been the reason. I have noticed I've been forgetful in the last months. I don't know if its from the alcohol use or the extreme anemia...quite possibly a combination of both??? I'm a single woman who has no one to help me financially if I were to lose my job. I'm actually really scared. I'm overwhelmed at work from an extremely heavy workload and battling with anemia and worst of all the alcoholism. Today is the last day I'm drinking (I'm currently drinking but far from drunk). Tomorrow night I'm going to an AA meeting which is closed and for women only. I'm nervous about going, but know I must get a support system or I'm going to continue ruining my health and quite possibly lose my job. I really do want to quit drinking but its so hard!!!
Sinderos , You found SR , I'm glad you did. So you have relapsed. Relapse is not failing. Not getting up , dusting off and trying again is failing. Your hear posting , fantastic . You can do this
Sinderos,
Hang in there. Going to a meeting is a good decision and I'm confident you'll have a good experience there. I've been sober over three decades and AA meetings helped me through the beginning and continue to do so today. I was at a meeting just a short time ago, been home for an hour.
Day at a time...

Was wondering where you'd been, Sinderos. I am so sorry you're having a hard time but I think you're on the right path. I got extremely forgetful towards the end of my drinking days, too, and was embarrassed at work a few times. If you're anemic as well, drinking is depriving your body of essential vitamins and nutrients and probably not helping matters much...but you already know that
I could not stop on willpower alone and I think that's pretty common---although I sure tried a few times and failed. AA has been great for me and, honestly, I was extremely skeptical about it at first for many reasons. Now AA and SR are helping me to stay sober so I am glad you're adding it to your plan. I know everyone says don't be nervous...but, really, try not to be. It's a welcoming place where you'll likely find a lot of understanding and support. I did. You can also always call ahead and have someone meet you before the meeting to walk in with you. It is common.
Best of luck to you and please keep posting here and let us know how it goes. Missed hearing from you!
