I'm back, and not dead
I quit drinking just after Christmas and made it about 7 weeks before deciding I could drink normally. Obviously that didn't work and I slowly went from once a week to twice (but just weekends!!!!) then random Wednesday then random Monday Wednesday Thursday then of course its Friday and you get the picture.
Luckily I went back to AA before things became full blown again and just shy of 30 days sober now (with a much MUCH more open mind toward 12 step) I decided to check out SR again. To be honest I didn't want to use this website because I found it very easy to try and make this a replacement for my real life work which for me is simply not a good thing. On the other hand this site and internet forums in general I think have a real place in recovery. Nowhere else can I read so many others experiences so quickly easily and conveniently. Thanks to all the great people here and hopefully I never have to post again about how I decided I could drink normally.

Welcome back Ohio1. Glad to hear you caught things before they went full blown out of control again, I know that feeling all too well. I'm coming up on 5 months myself and feeling much better about not drinking as a way of life.
Welcome back!
We all want to cling to the idea that we can drink/use "normally" and usually one try at it is not enough. The important thing is to just truly come to terms with it and accept it. The longer you stay sober the more you will get used to a new routine without drinking and it will get easier and easier to picture a life with no substances.
You can do it ! Just keep moving forward and working on YOU and what you want for your future.

Glad you are not dead....
....'cause it would really FREAK ME OUT if you could post here if you were! LOL!!
It's great that you are giving sobriety another go and hopefully this time you can make it to the point where alcohol has no place in your life. Everyone's situation is different but there is a very simple thing that can get you there, just don't pick up that first drink.... I know that get's said a lot but it really is true.
Alcoholics CANNOT drink 'normally' (whatever that is). We have a predisposed attraction to alcohol that drives us to keep drinking past 1 or 2 and for me it was more like 8 or 10! Just don't have that 1st drink.... for a minute, an hour, 2 hours, a day then a week and before you know it the cravings will lessen and then (with God's help) there will be the day when you have no desire for alcohol at all.
I'm glad you decided to come back to SR. Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
