Hey Dads how did you drop the weight?

How did you drop the alcohol weight after getting sober? I am in need of ideas and ways to stick to it.

After many failed and different programs I found that keeping my mouth shut more often seems to work along with not thinking about eating. BE WELL

Imperfectly. . .I LOVE myfitnesspal. I get such a charge doing a huge workout and getting to add 750 calorie of exercise.

I actually gained weight after I became sober. I have no idea why. When drinking I would drink beer which is packed full of calories. Now I'm watching my diet closely, avoiding sugar, and getting as much exercise as my middle age body can handle. It's working slowly but surely.

I crave sweets like never before. It is beach season where I live and am too embarrassed to go. I am usually there everyday.

Simple. Burn more calories than you take in. Portion control and exercise.

Walking is a great way to get started. Causes the least stress on the body.

I was not terribly overweight, but I was flabby. I recently lost 20 pounds in about 3 months by making relatively simple changes. I was aiming for the often recommended 1 pound/week, but did a bit better than that ... certainly cutting out alcohol helped.

I made small changes as I knew I would not be able to sustain anything radical. I concentrate on eating a healthy breakfast (usually oatmeal) and most often go vegetarian for lunch (cut out the fried foods). I allow myself meat and to indulge a bit at dinner. I still watch portion size, but give myself latitude in what I eat.

The final piece that really helped me was to chart my weight on the refrigerator. I weigh myself at the same time every morning and mark it on the graph. It is very motivating to have the graph in plain site for all to see (wife, kids, visitors). It is also motivating to see the accumulation of small changes over time. Losing a single pound a week doesn't seem like much, but when you have two months of data, it feels wonderful to see the downward trend line.

Good luck. You can do it!

Unless you have access to a swimming venue.
