Let's take a break from self-depreciation party...
Hi, all)
When it comes to addiction we often tend to call ourselves different names, and they are not always nice.
"I am no good. I can't do it. I'm a mess".
Is it productive? No.
I think if we take a better look, we'll find a lot of beautiful things about ourselves.
Why don't we take a break and tell each other what we love about ourselves? Maybe, it's kind of "immodest" but I believe that it will make world better, and bring more positive emotions which we need on our way.
I'll start with myself.
-I like my gray-blue eyes which can turn into shades of turquoise or green depending on lighting;
- I like that when I quit wine and suffered from insomnia I started writing poems;
- I like that I can always come up with a new solution whatever challenging task is.
Who's next on our self-appreciation party?)))

Hmmm...ok, I'll go.
I like that I laugh a lot. I find humor in almost everything.
I like the fact that I'm a good musician/music teacher.
I like that these sober days, I'm not much afraid of anything.

I like the fact that I am far more productive..
Today..
I've cut my lawn..slightly more than 1/2 acre
Planted a Hyrdranga
Planted and fenced in my garden.
Am getting ready for a cookout - sanz alchohol.
And I've only been up 5 hours...I'm pretty happy with myself today

I like that I have eternal empathy & plan on changing the world.
I like that I have a critical thinking brain.
I like that I am quick to laugh & can also crack people up on a regular basis!
Great topic!

Good thread. I believe the language we use with ourselves is very powerful.
There is nothing immodest about recognizing one's own strengths. It's important to know what you're good at, what your gifts are, where your strengths lie. Somewhere along the line, some of us got a societal message that confidence=bad, that self deprecation=good and is somehow even virtuous.
I like that I am tenacious. I like that I find humor in almost everything. I like that I am a free thinker. I like that I am an avid learner. I like that I can be depended on. I like that I am unafraid. I like that I am not easily defined.

Thank you Midnight for starting this thread! You make such a fantastic point about our own internal dialogue and thinking positively. I'm a firm believer that the thoughts we focus on (can/may/will) eventually be brought to fruition, ...so we might as well think good thoughts!
-I like that I am thrilled by simple things i.e. hummingbirds outside my window, the color of green in the tree leaves, the rain today, bird's chirping, and my kitty's little tuffs of shedding fur she leaves around the house.
-I like the strength and accountability that I've found within myself, like I can be completely alone and be very happy and content.
-I like that I am honest and hold integrity as a guide and high value in my life.

Great idea!
I like that I can behave in ways that I truly believe have no ulterior motive/s attached to them. I like my smile-it's "on display" a lot more now I like that I don't gossip-it bores me to tears. I also like that i'm tenacious. I like that I can actually appreciate myself for who I am
Xx

Cool idea, I totally agree that "negative self-talk" is a terrible habit that we addicts have. It's good to give ourselves a break every once in a while.
I'm an explorer! I also am a jack-of-all trades: I can read Chaucer for an hour and then take apart my laptop to fix the hard drive. I might not succeed at either, but by god I'm not afraid to try!

I'm just sitting here watching my cursor blink and thinking to myself "this is harder than I thought".
I like that I never give up
I like that I am compassionate
I'm proud of myself for being sober today

I love that I am not willing to give up.
I love that I cannot easily criticize others,
I am proud that I support a family on my own.
I love that I am empathetic.
