Keeping off it!
Keeping off it!
Hi all, hope you're all doing well
I just registered today and after reading some posts i think this forum may be the best way forward.
I won't bore you all with my whole life story for now, just a few basics.
brought up around alcohol.
used alcohol most of my life.
self medicate to come off alcohol.
last drink I had was 9 days ago.
Over the years I have told myself so many lies:
I can drink tonight and stop again tomorrow. - wrong
It's not really doing me any harm. - wrong
alcohol is all I deserve from life. - wrong (hopefully)
seizures, vertigo, anxiety, depression, agoraphobia are nothing to do with me drinking alcohol - wrong
The list goes on.
For me, the biggest problem is keeping off it. I spend so much time alone, 24 hours is a long time everyday without drinking/getting drunk. I have to fill that big massive empty space and spending time on here would certainly break the day/night up a bit.
Thanks for reading & hope to get to know you all

Hi, Stayalive. Welcome to SR!
I can tell you for sure that you will be never alone here -great place of support.
Loneliness, boredom and empty space is a huge challenge on the recovery road. Recovery is more than just staying away from alcohol, it involves changes in live.
Make a plan to keep yourself busy, explore around for the program that will work for - AA, AVRT, SMART, or some other.
Make a first step. Don't be afraid. Take one day at a time.
Keep posting here - it helps a lot to find understanding form people who have been walking in the same shoes.
Best wishes to you)

Welcome stayalive! It's great to have you here with us.
It helps to have a place to come to when you're feeling anxious or on edge - it really helped soothe my nerves to read and post here when I was first coming off it. 9 days is great - and you'll continue to feel better as you heal. Congratulations on making this big decision - you can do it!

Hi stayalive,
Your name says it all, you know why you're here.
Oh boy can I relate, the laundry list of excuses to drink is endless I know. I'm sort of a loner too, my work is done totally alone and I spend most all my free time in solitude.
You're not alone though, I'm here for you, as is everyone on this site.
You're no fool, you seem to be aware all those excuses to use are just that... EXCUSES! 9 days is huge, you should be proud.
