Hello Everyone
Hi I am new to the site but not new to recovery.
Where do I begin? I have had issues with alcohol since i began drinking. It was always to excess. I had put some time together in the past but only as long as 5 months. An alcohol is rearing its ugly head at me again. This time in a foreign land where I have entirely too much free time and availability.
I am in an open relationship that is also a long distance relationship. I tell my man everything. He trusts me and we love eachother very much. But we are both worried about my behavior as of late. Drinking heavily and often. And a couple times doing cocaine while drunk.
Last night I hooked up with my friend. I barely remember. But I told my man and he was upset that I was taking things too far and is obviously concerned for my well being and for the future of our relationship. As am I.
So there you have it. Thanks for listening.

Hi, Sandy. Welcome to SR.
5 months is quite a time. What helped you to stay sober back then?
Free time and boredom is a huge challenge for sobriety. You have to make a plan and stick to it.
There's a lot of support here, keep posting, look for a program or group of support. Take one day at a time.
Take it seriously.
Best wishes to you)

Thanks for your support everyone!! It's been a couple days now that I haven't had a drink. My man is doing it with me which I think is incredibly admirable and unnecessary but sweet nonetheless.
Saturday is my birthday and I know the pressure to drink will be great but I will avoid it because I want to *remember* my birthday and not fall back into this destructive pattern.

My sober birthdays have been fab, I have had 3 of them.
Maybe you need to celebrate like little kids do.....jelly, ice cream, the excitement of blowing your candles out. Have milkshakes instead of booze, candy instead of cocaine! Play pass the parcel.
Or you could have a sophisticated afternoon tea with the girls.
Little sandwiches, cakes, posh tea, fresh orange.
Or you could go for a long walk with your man and take a pic-nic.
I don't associate drinking as a way of celebrating now.
I enjoy myself more and I don't let myself or anyone else down.
My best to you
xx
