The word douche! It seems that word is becoming more common, almost acceptable today. Now, I am not a prude and have been known to use a few expletives but that word is just not in my vocabulary.
When did that word become ok to use? Is it ok to use, I mean....is it considered cussing?
Even my almost 20 yrs daughter, her friends and my nieces use it like they using the word jerk.
I think the next time some one (my husband, haha) annoys me, I am going to say "oh, stop being a douche." I wonder if he would be offended, lol.
Just my thought for the day. Can you tell it's been a long one?

It's spread to Australia as well. Some of the young people I work with use it and I personally find it offensive because it's derogatory to women.
My guess is it became more widespread because it was used in the Sopranos, but maybe you guys heard it used before then?
It wasn't usual in Aussie until the last 12 months.

It's been around used in the context of "jerk" for a long, long time. You can choose to use it. Or not. You can choose to judge people who do. Or not.
I would only be insulted if I was a douche bag.....then I might take offense. (Do douche bags actually exist anymore? Or do we only use euphemisms like "Summer's Eve"?) Perhaps it would be more gentile and politically correct to call someone a "Summer's Eve". Hmmmm.....it just doesn't have the same impact, does it? And there's the answer.....it has nothing to do with the actual ACT of douching and has everything to do with impact and impropriety of the word. And it's a way to speak French and be able to say "pardon my French" and mean it?
It doesn't bother me one way or the other. Letting it bother me relinquishes power to others. It's outta my hula hoop.

OMG, roflmao The term douchebag has been around since I was a teenager. I think what has happened is that the more the younger folks are text messaging and used abbreviations, that the 'bag' was dropped and now it is just "you are such a douche."
I do know for me, that one of the ways I 'judged' my own recovery was how much I swore when I was sharing at a meeting. I swear when I first found recover, I used the "F" word every other word. As time went on, and I would hear myself, I discovered that I was swearing a lot less, and the "F" word was disappearing from my vocabulary.
Nowadays when I hear an offensive word like the "F" word or "douche" or an abundance of swearing, I just give them 'the look.' Y'all know 'the look.' Our kids and grand kids sure know 'the look'. roflmao and the offender (usually a lot younger than me, lol) will stop their swearing while in the range of my hearing.

Me too and that was a long, long time ago. I suspect most who use it now, have no idea what douche (bag) was.
I HATE that word or any form of it. It just sounds so gross to me. Maybe it's bc I'm a nurse and I take it literally, idk. I'm used to hearing it a lot bc it's become an acceptable way to insult someone but I personally have never used the word in that way. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority though lol.
Anyone who refers to that part of the anatomy or anything used there,
when calling me names will quickly find out the meaning of "steel toed bunnyslippers"
