TV temptations
Is it just me and my broken brain or are there more beer commercials on lately?
And don't they make beer look so innocently awesome? This Miller 64 ad shows really lean, beautifully shaped men and women working out, jogging and chanting some Miller 64 jingle. What the heck planet am I on ?

Welcome to the sober world, Gmanriley))
Yes, something is not Ok with this world if modern culture is working so hard to sell more alcohol and other crap to each other.
As for me, I plugged antenna out of my TV set) Though characters in my favorite movies still drink too much IMHO (and still look great next morning)), at least no commercials pushing this crap like "be yourself, break free, discover new world...drinking beer.
Take care.

Use the mute button and silence the ads.
I silence all ads except if there is something of interest, that way it won't allow corporations get in my head !
It feels good to, they spend big $$ on sound etc so the remote control mute button is my weapon of choice !
Aim-----> MUTE
GOTCHA!

I think there are just more commercials on these days. During the election I quit TV. I still watch movies on disc but no network TV. I'm not saying it's good for others to do the same it's just working for me. There are plenty of other outlets to get the news. It wasn't just the beer ads that bothered me. It's the whole "be young, be hip, be good looking" slant to product sales. Beer ads carry that message big time.
I saw an ad the other day for sorbet flavored liquor. A woman carried it around in her purse to this igloo party. Sorbet? I think the candy flavored liquor is marketed to really young people. It's BS how they show liquor commercials during episodes of cops where drunk people are fighting and going crazy. And yeah you never see the physical effects of being drunk in the commercials, it's always a group of sober people holding drinks.
Advertising only works if you watch and listen to it. You control your pocketbook, make smart decisions about what you buy. Just like we continually tell people - only YOU can decide if you are an alcoholic and quit. Only YOU can take the money out of your wallet or credit card and make a purchase. Be smart and you will be just fine.
It doesn't do me any good to sit there
dreaming or wishing I could have one
of those cold poison beverages. That is
just inviting torture to my mind and I
don't have to do that to myself.
As yrs. pass in recovery, those commercials
don't get the best of me like they use to because
today I have the tools and knowledge of a
recovery program to ward off those temptations.
It looks like alcohol commercials aren't gonna
disappear anytime soon just because im in
recovery, so acceptance is the key for me.
Now that we are in the market to buy a new
car, all I see today is car commercials one
right after another. And if it's not car
or alcohol commercials then it will be
something else. Right?
