Hello

Hi there.

I'm a (almost) 39yo female from the UK.

sober coming up 16 weeks, did a home detox with my partner. We are both doing really well.

sometimes questioned wether we were alcoholic or binge drinkers. Never drank before 4pm (unless it was the weekend) but then would sink my own body weight in beer of an evening. Every night for 14 years, only remaining sober when pregnant twice. But, as my counsellor put it, if it costs you more than money then you're an alcoholic. I've done some stupid things, almost lost my job as well (functioning alcoholic?), return to work tomorrow to a demotion after 6 months suspension/sacked.

I attend a 3 weekly group which finishes this week then I move onto a living sober group. I don't go to AA.

Welcome to SR

My husband and I gave up drinking together 11 months ago, and I've only got positive things to say about how a relationship can change and grow after years of drinking together. Good luck to you both x

Great job on your 16 weeks! I wish I'd quit in my 30's - I kept trying to use willpower to manage what I drank. It never worked once, with disastrous results. Happy to have you here with us, RX.
