Is it possible

To contact an old drinking buddy who has a year recovery under their belt? Or are you never supposed to talk to those people again?

Depends on what you're contacting them for I guess, but newcomers seeking help from people in recovery is kinda what this site, and a lot of other programmes, are based on

I'd contact them in a heartbeat!! Friends are friends... I think you could really learn a lot from this person and find out how they were able to get a year sober.. Don't be scared to ask for help, that's what friends are for! Good luck to you!!

You may want to keep in mind, that they may have some boundaries up themselves and may not want to be contacted so don't take it personally. They may want to protect their own recovery if you are still drinking or using. I know if I had a year I probably wouldn't want to be in contact with someone who was still using unless it was at a AA/NA meeting.

sure why not
but
one must be careful with the old drinking buddies
they have in a few instances been known to go back out drinking together
sometimes it just does not hurt
to be on our guard
this sobriety thing is never to be taken for granted
