Admit it. Please.

I'm currently in therapy to help me to understand my feelings toward my mom who is an alcoholic and a drug addict who has yet to see that she has a problem. I wrote this about her...

Admit It

Stop it.
Stop lying
hiding
deceiving
pretending
believing

Admit it.
Admit the lies
the problems
the truths
the mistakes
the wrong
You're wrong.

Please just
see
open your eyes
see
what you've done
to so many
instead of
only seeing yourself
as the victim
See that you
failed
at what you said
you were going to do

See that I'm angry
But I'm not mad
if you just
Admit it.

Creative. I often write things in a journal, but I've never thought of writing it out as poetry.

If you were to set this to music, what genre would it be?

Welcome. Very creative, thank you for sharing. We all want our alcoholic parent to take responsibility for what they did, but sadly, they rarely if ever do. When we come to accept that then we can move on to our own healing. I hope she recovers.

I see so much of my mom and dad in that poem.

Love the poem. Not sure if you'll ever get your wish that your mother will face what she's done. Some people just aren't that strong.
Can you forgive her without her admitting anything? Not saying you should, just wondering. I have trouble forgiving, but I do get over the anger in time.

My folks are in their 70's now, still married (though probably shouldn't be, wealth works wonders) and the family disease of alcoholism is still in full effect. I've been hoping for an admission or ownership of something, anything, since I came into recovery over 20 years ago. Ain't gonna happen. I think I've kind of accepted them as they are, but it is sad though. I think we could be alot closer if there was some honesty. It is what it is. Thanks for the post.
