I am back to recovery after a 4 year relapse. The last 4 years have been hellish to say the least. My family is hanging by a thread. I am hanging by a thread. I tried and tried to get a handle on my drinking, but (at least in my case) it is a progressive disease. I am really feel to progressive part, because it is getting worse. I pretty much have a hangover with just about any alcohol intake, and I am blacking out more and more. I have become verbally abusive to my wife. I have not been physically abusive ever, but who knows what can happen when I am blackout drunk. I am just done trying to get it right. I am truly ready to quit completely.
You've made a smart decision to quit drinking. I quit over three years ago and don't regret a minute of my sober time. Do you have a support system in place? Friends, family you can talk to? Or a recovery program like AA or SmartRecovery might be helpful. I see a counselor and come to SR daily. That keeps me sober.
Welcome Sammy! I know the feeling - and you've found a great place for help.
I once had 3 yrs. sober & decided I could have a glass or two of wine. Once it got in my system I convinced myself I could control it this time - surely I'd never drink irresponsibly again, after all the destruction it caused! I never realized back then that willpower alone can never stop us from getting drunk. My drinking escalated - it took me 7 yrs. to come here and get serious about stopping for good.
I hope you'll find the help and hope you're looking for. We care - please keep posting.

See your doctor for a proper detoxing. Then embrace and utilize a method for staying stopped such as:
Rational Recovery
AVRT
SMART
AA Life Ring
SOS
Power to Quit
Women for Sobriety
Each has it's own website.
Glad you found SR!
