Social Binger?
Hi all,
I have been sober for 12 days now. Longest I've ever gone without a drink in the past ten years. Going strong and I feel good about it.
I have two questions maybe someone can help me with.
1. My wife has never made a big deal of my drinking problem, so I really never told her i quit. I'd drink alone a lot so she never really saw the half of it. She likes to have a few drinks on the weekend and likes it when I join her. I don't really know what to say to her without myself feeling embarrassed about the problem, I know weird situation.
2. My college friends birthday is next weekend, I'm going to his party and he expects me to get loaded with him. I'd like to but honestly don't want to lose this "high" of being sober. I feel good for once in my life about life.
I don't know how to tell him I don't wanna drink without him knowing I'm dealing with issues.

a true friend will truly understand you wish not to get high
if a new one to sobriety wishes to stay sober
at least for a while
there are some places in which we probably should not go

Welcome. The way sobriety works is to NOT PICK UP THE FIRST DRINK! That’s what I had difficulty with along with a lot of others. There is sort of a devil in many of us listen to forget the pain we’ve been through and resume our misery path, perhaps never being able to stop again. We must remember that alcohol is the problem, all other things are situations which we grow up and learn to deal with. A lot of what I post I didn’t like when I was still new but after many years here I’m speaking the same words the good old timers spoke to help me. BE WELL.
