Red face Hi!

I'm new to using forums for addiction-related issues but I thought I'd drop a short intro. After this I'll probably read and lurk for a while. I'm currently 72 hours sober after over a decade of being either drunk or hungover. There were very few sober periods in between. The longest was for about two months, going on six years ago now when I made an excuse about starting drinking again after a relationship fell apart. Within the last couple of years, my work life has started to suffer and my home life isn't anywhere near as active as it should be. I'd been using alcohol to knock myself out every night, frequently as much as 5 rum and cokes and a dozen beers. I'd started having panic attacks not long after waking up due to the hangovers and then I'd start the cycle all over again. Well I had the opportunity to kick myself in to gear on Monday so I did. My biggest concern now, aside from staying sober of course, is my friends. A lot of them are drinking buddies, really. Not sure how they'll react to me wanting to not go out and drink. We'll see. I'll take that as it happens. The worst thing so far has been insomnia. Can't wait until I quit waking up every 30 minutes or so.

Hi Holden! Congratulations on your 72 hours.

You've done a good thing by joining SR. The people here got me on track and helped me stay there. I come here every day for encouragement and support - it's been my lifeline. Here's hoping you start sleeping better soon - you'll never regret taking this big step to reclaim your life.
