1st day
Hi everyone. Just joined the forum and today is my 1st day off the booze. Been drinking daily for nearly 20 years and now im on the brink of losing everything, my wonderful wife and daughter and possibly my job.
Ive actually now truly admitted that im an alcoholic as i have been unable to stop or cut down. Actually when i cut down i then went on mad binges shortly after. This is now having a massive impact on my life. My wife who i love very much as been very supportive and understanding to date but is now struggling to cope. We've been married for 8 years and she has not touched a drop of alcohol in hope that i would do the same.
I know this is going to be very difficult but im determin to become sober. Any help or advise would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks

Welcome to SR Mark x
I spent time when I arrived just reading everyone's posts, identifying with what they said and looking at ways I felt could support me. Getting sober is the best move I ever made for my marriage and my kids.
This is a caring supportive community, welcome to our family.
Good news you have caught this before you lost everything, plenty here have.
Good luck on your journey x

I feel a little reticent to comment as I am in a different addiction. But when I was first off the booze, I remember being amazed at getting about 8 hours, then a whole day, then a week. Going to AA meetings definitely kept me going those early days.
Great to meet you, Mark. I was a long time drinker, too. I felt all alone with the problem until I found SR & so many people just like me. This is a great place - glad you've joined us and are on your way to a better life. It's wonderful to be free of it.
