I'm new
Well I have come to the conclusion that I have a slight drinking problem and that it needs to stop. I'm not a daily drinker just a weekend drinker but when I drink during the weekend I tend to binge out and I also end up doing other things like stimulants. I started thinking about it and I came to the realization that I had been doing this for well over 7 years. Does anyone have any tips on what can help me quit
Welcome, clutter!
You should check with your doctor. If you call now, you may be able to get a prescription for tonight to help with sleep and anxiety. And if you find quitting difficult, start getting more help: look around this forum, check out local support groups, if that doesn't work try detox, the next step would be extended rehab...

Hello Clutter!
Welcome to SR and kudos for realizing that you need to address your drinking problem. No time is better than now, left untreated, it will continue to devour your life. Since your binging is still limited to weekends, find something to do to occupy your time on the weekends and to keep your mind busy. Along with alcohol addiction, you have a long-standing habit that needs to be broken. It isn't easy, but it is doable!
In early abstinence, it is helpful to avoid people and places that are associated with drinking. Developing a new healthy lifestyle and associating with people who can support you in your endeavor will help you in your quest.

For the combination of alcohol and stimulants I would seek out medical advice. The withdrawals could be harmful.
Plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and nutritious food will be helpful.
Posting on forums here is great to "get out of one's self" to help other people.
Spend time with people face to face who are supportive of your efforts.
You are doing well. Best to you....

some great advice here Clutter - you'll find a lot of support here
I was a weekend drinker for many years too - dunno that there was much slight about it tho?
writing yourself off from Friday to Sunday nights, and getting into all kinds of bad decisions with it, is pretty extreme now I look back at it.
I'm glad you found us

Welcome clutter. It's good you're taking a look at what drinking is doing to you - before things spin out of control. I wish I had. I drank on weekends for years, but in the end I found myself completely dependent on it & I was drinking daily. I saw the warning signs (like you have) but did nothing about it. Glad you are here to discuss this.
