well im here somehow. obviously because i think the beer is becoming a problem.
and i dont want it to be.
lets see how it goes
ive always been a bit of a pisshead shall we call it when i went out. but over the years working shifts have taken there toll. start to drink to aid sleep. then needing to drink to sleep and on to drinking for the sake of it. thought id add this.

Welcome Fortysix! I read here for months before joining this past February. Keep reading threads as I am sure you will find many that you can identify with. When you are ready, the support here is awesome! 53 days sober today with the support and encouragement I found with SR! By the way, I used wine to "help" me sleep for decades. Now, my head hits the pillow and I am fast asleep and sleep soundly for 8+ hours per night. It did take several weeks, but so worth the effort!
Hey fortysix! It's good to meet you and have you part of the family.
It's good you're taking a look at what beer is doing to your life. Glad you are taking action before it controls you.

Hi Forty
Have you done any reading on AVRT - which is addictive voice recognition technique?
There are lots of threads and discussions here on it.
Its basically recognising that voice in your head that justifies why you should drink.
For me that might
1. I have had a bad day
2. Its friday, the whole world drinks on friday.
3. Just one glass of wine will not hurt.
4. I know I won't sleep so I am going to drink a couple of beers.
5. The weather is starting to get nice, so it might be nice to have a couple of beers.
For me, knowing this is that addictive voice inside my head usually means I don't act on those thoughts.
Another thing to do maybe is ply the tape right through to the end.
So if you think a two beers might be nice, have a long think about where it could end up.
Will it just me two drinks? In my case probably not, it will be 12 or 13.
Will it be a relaxing time? No, I will probably black out and then spend the next day hating myself, feeling paranoid and be hungover.
Will it be okay jut to have a few drinks? No I will let myself down and other people down and I will be regretful for the next week.
Whats the worst that could happen? I could end up blacking out, being in a dangerous situation, I might say something or do something bad, I could hurt myself or someone else. If I am still drunk the next day, I might keep drinking as sobering up will be too painful.
I hope you find this useful.
My best to you xx
