Help my friend

My ex-girlfriend has relapsed. Is talking about suicide and doesn't have the power to get back to meetings. Are there some in-patient services that are free. The last time she attempted suicide it cost her thousands of dollars. We are in Whitefish, Montana.

It is possible that just a visit from the police will be helpful. As long as everyone stays cool and respectful, everything should turn out fine. In my case, I was taken away (in handcuffs) for three days of involuntary observation, and it was at no cost to me.

This can be successful if everyone is cool and respectful. Have her practice saying, "Yes, I am suicidal and need help."

Okay, so maybe there are reasons you don't want a visit from your friendly neighborhood sheriff. Actually, the three days I spent in a psych ward did not help me. It took me another year to quit. When I was ready, everything worked well because I had a good attitude (and it was also low cost).

Hmmm..... Call your local psych unit and see if they will take her in? Money should not be in the equation right now. Lets worry about the money later. When i landed myself in a psych unit, It costs me $140.00 six months later. Do she have insurance?

No insurance. Who do I call to see how all these options actually would work?

I don't know what happens if you call 211, why don't you try that?

How about calling a doctor and asking for advice?

211 helps in directing callers to community resources.

Not all towns have it, our small city just got 211 service recently.

Are you in Whitefish too? Why are you involved with the ex-girlfriend?

It really doesn't take power to get back to the meetings, it takes surrender.

Is there an old sponsor or oldtimer at the meetings that would call her?

I wish her the best.

Should it matter if he wants to help? Suicide is nothing to mess with.

I know. I was suicidal for years. Do you know what it is, Scott ??

I was wondering why family/doctor/friends etc weren't looking after this, is an ex-boyfriend all the girl has to help her?

All the best.

Yes, I understand it very well - i have lost a family member to it unfortunately. But that's also kind of irrelevant, my point is that the OP was asking for help...questioning why he needs help seems counterproductive.

It's also good to know that the Salvation Army offers free in-patient rehab for anyone who needs help. Contact your local Salvation Army office.
