Day 81 Been told my Dad might not have long

I've just had a phone call from my Dads partner telling me that the Consultant at the hospital has said my Dads Kidneys and Liver are nearly packed in.

There gonna try everything they can but its not looking good.

I feel upset and guilty!

My wife says I shouldn't feel guilty but I can't help it, just keep thinking I should of been there and wondering if I could of done more.

I wasn't firm with my Dad, I told him he needed to knock it on the head but he wanted to drink and in his words has "burnt the candle at both ends".

I'm sorry your going through this. My mom died 2 years ago from acute liver failure so I can feel your pain. Are you close to your dad (location wise) that you could go see him? Please don't feel guilty. Your dad had a choice and he choose to drink. I tried for years to get my mom to stop and finally I had to come to terms with the fact she was going to keep drinking.

I did live round the corner from him I went round every 2 weeks but there was times I didn't go round for a while cause I'd get a guilt trip and I'd just feel worse when leaving.

Day 81! Great work! Keep it up.
Straightedgeste,

My father died from cirrhosis of his liver. He was told by the doctors that if he continued to drink he would die. He chose to drink.
All of us (alcoholics) have a choice, alcohol or recovery.
His choice SE, not yours and not your burden to carry.
You are choosing recovery. continue on your path of recovery, it is the way to live!
