Hard Time
Hello all, I'm an alcoholic that's diagnosed with heart failure at 40 years old...I'm having a hard time quitting drinking even though my life depends on it...I'm sad about that..

Glad you found us. What methods have you used to try and quit in the past? I tried to stop on my own a few times and failed but now go to AA and read and post on here. That combination works well for me. I am sure others will be along soon to share their experience

I think fear of change can be very powerful...but fear of dying is pretty powerful too.
I really encourage you to throw everything you have at staying sober - even if you're not totally convinced right now...
you'll probably find that this curious apathy you have will lift after a while too.

Awww, sorry to hear that. So glad you found us. Welcome Silly, You will find so much support here. I never had heart trouble, but I know the struggle for sure with alcoholism. I finally went into a detox for the 5th time after I had hit all the bottoms that I read about in AA. Jails, Institutions and death, well for me suicide attempts.
This forum has been such a blessing to my recovery. I personally do AA/NA and it has worked for me. Today I am clean and sober and have a great support system and life is getting better. You will learn about many routes to recovery in here that work for many people, Please don't beat yourself up, you are not alone and never have to be again.
Just keep posting and getting those feelings out. God Bless you Sil!

I thought I'd never be able to give up alcohol, but coming here gave me the hope and strength I needed to finally get sober. It's way too hard to do it alone, that's for sure.
