OT - Big Interview Tomorrow!!
OT - Big Interview Tomorrow!!
Good Morning, Friends!
Since we're here to support each other through just about everything life throws at us, I thought I would ask for a little support that is not related to anything alcoholic!
We are a family, at least I feel that way, and I get along with you all better than many of my blood relatives, so there - you're stuck with me!
Anyway, tomorrow I have an interview with a large, multi-national corporation located here in Central Ohio. This is EXACTLY the job I have been hoping/praying for for many years. I know I can't control it, but dammit I can ask for thoughts/prayers, so that's what I'm doing! It would be a big step up for me in terms of responsibilities, and pay. But I know I can do it, even though I'm going into it deficient in some of the skills they are looking for.
But it would be a huge boost for me in the long run in many aspects, and a boost psychologically in my self-esteem. Just getting the interview has given me some self-confidence and hope that there are options out there for me.
Thank you all for your support as we make this journey through life! You are all such a blessing.

Luck!!!
Just go in and project a confident, can-do attitude. I had what I thought were MANY deficiencies in terms of the experience needed for a lot of what I do now (traveling, giving presentations, networking with non-profits, etc.). I asked my boss recently about the other people who had interviewed in-person for this job. Turns out I was the only one under serious consideration (!). They didn't interview anyone else.
And even though I'm playing "catch-up" with some of the skills (and getting better at them), I've been told many times that the skills I DID bring to the table (trial/appellate experience, research and writing skills) have made me a good choice. They are happy with what I do.
Prayers and good wishes goin' out!

Go for it!
As someone who used to interview people for jobs like this, I'd say figure out what you want them to know about you by the end of the interview - the 5 main reasons that you can do a bang-up job at this, and make sure that each person you interview with hears all of them.
You can say "We've talked about my X, but not yet touched on my ABCD, would you like me to cover those areas also?"
And try to find a way to anticipate how you'd handle the areas you haven't had as much experience in yet - training you'd take, similar but not identical experiences you do have, similar challenges you've faced and surmounted in new areas.
One interesting way to think about it is to convey "here are the results I tend to create when I take on a job, project, etc." In other words, not just what you DO, but what you GET DONE that will accomplish the company's goals.
Good luck, PM me if I can help you,
