Hi Im new. Ive would like for yesterday to be the last day I've ever had a drink. But I feel like I've just decided to murder my best friend (alcohol) and Im not too sure how im going to live without her. Both my parents were alcoholics. My mom was sober for about 5 years before she died. My dads been sober for 13 years now and I think im ready to stop drinking.

Well there's no denying you've got a great lineage there I've got similar family tree riddled with abuse - wish I'd joined the dots earlier like you seem to have.

Welcome! Good for you for recognizing the problem in yourself. I felt like alcohol was my best friend 2 years ago when I quit, and now I realize that it was my crutch to not deal with everyday life. Take your recovery day-by-day, stay strong, and know that things get so much better without your 'best friend'. Alcohol actually turned out to be my worst enemy, and I'm much happier for eliminating it from my life.
Welcome to the family woodswalker. You are not alone! We all get you - and know what you're going through. I drank for 30 yrs. I lost decades of my life living in a fog - but I'm finally free of it. You can do it too, woods. We are here to help.

Welcome Woodswalker. Not being trite...we all had our first day...a very important date. You will have support here and many people personally. You helped me today...your best days lie ahead.
I was so glad I was in recovery when my kids
were little because with a program of recovery
to guide me each day while raising my kids, and
with the knowledge and tools provided to me,
I became a shining light or example to them
so if they were to ever have problems with
addiction later on in life, I could and would be
there for them.
My little ones are grown and gone with their
own families and careers with no addiction,
which is a blessing, but I still remain available
to them if needed.
I always shared with them about how awesome
it was for them to have someone right there in
our little family in recovery to be able to share
my own experiences, strengths and hopes with
them. To be available to them when ever needed.
Living life today with all the knowledge and tools
of recovery taught to me 22yrs ago has been
useful to me and my life each day I remain sober.
It can be for you too.
