Day 76 My Dads gotta stop
My Dad has come to a point where he has to stop drinking.
He's in hospital now his belly keeps getting bigger and they keep draining it.
Its a struggle cause his life has been around pubs and drinking his whole life and basically he's got nothing else apart from me, my wife and his Grand Daughter.
He's very stubborn and wants no help!!!
Has anybody got any tips on what to do?
I just keep thinking he's gonna drink himself to death or be depressed for the rest of his life!

I'm sorry about your dad. I had a husband with ascites (the fluid in the belly) due to liver disease caused by drinking, and it is very distressing.
I think about the only thing that can be done is for the doctors to be very honest with him about how deadly his situation has become, and that he is likely to die if he does not stop. Sometimes doctors get through when loved ones cannot.
There really isn't anything you can do to MAKE him want to stop--he has to want that, himself.
I hope you will find some Al-Anon meetings for yourself. I know when I was terribly worried about my husband it was a very comforting place to be.
