Today, I am grateful.
Today, I'm grateful to myself that I sought out advice and support to help me deal with an alcoholic. I'm grateful to Al-anon for helping teach me that I'm not alone and that I need to take care of myself, and let the alcoholic do the same. I'm grateful to my family members, who have struggled with alcoholics themselves, for reminding me that I deserve more. I'm grateful to all the books and podcasts that helped me understand that the roots of my problems needed to be addressed and that change happens slowly. I'm grateful that I was able to state what I needed and I'm grateful that I took myself out of the situation when my needs were not met. I'm grateful to realize that I can still love him and be able let him go on to continue his journey. Today, I am grateful to have no anxiety or worry about another persons drinking, that I am only responsible for myself, and the acceptance that I cannot control one damn thing in another persons life. What a blessing!
