You sound exactly like me -- a binger blacking out on vodka. I think I've finally reached the point where I not only recognize my need to quit but also want to quit, which is why I'm here.

I've joined a group. It's not AA (The whole "Higher Power" thing seems to me like replacing one addiction with another). I'm just going to not drink. That's how I smash it.
