Why don't we talk about methadone?
Why don't we talk about methadone?
I know there is a methadone forum, but I am asking us, the friends and family of addicts about this. My AS, after thousands of dollars of rehab and treatment, - and it's not the money, but the effort, and more effort and stress. His decision was to pursue methadone treatment. Methadone treatment has enabled him to work (until he as laid off, but that is an economy issue), get his mind straight. this is not then answer to his addiction , bu it has given him an chance to move forward. And he knows there is withdrawal from this.

Methadone has helped many get off opiates, I personally know of two addicted loved ones of friends of mine who were quite successful using methadone for about a year and then withdrawing from it, all under doctor's supervision.
Like any substance, it can be abused and often is. But it can be a great help as well.
There's not much to talk about with methadone, it is one of many optional treatments for getting off opiates.
I pray your son finds the same success as my two friend's daughters did.
Hugs

There have been many threads about methadone in the past. Some very successful. Some not so much. It is an option that can work but it's like anything......it will work as well as the addict commits to doing it appropriately. I am all for whatever works.
I'm glad to hear that methadone has worked well for your son!
gentle hugs
