Need to talk, not sure where to post anymore

It will be a week tomorrow off alcohol, a few months off opiates and I've dropped my benzos down to to just above what I'm prescribed. Feeling yuck. All I want to do is sleep and I get panic attacks everytime I reach the bottom of the benzo 'high.'

Dr is happy to keep prescribing benzos for awhile yet, I'm struggling not to chase down more or drink or get painkillers too. Or act out on my Ed.

My brain is everywhere.

Good on you for a week off alcohol. I found I started to feel better after the first week. Not sure about meds tho, just follow your doc.s advice or if you are not happy see another doc. Therapy may help for your thoughts etc. it really does get better even though it feels awful in the early days,we just have to get through it.there is no quick fix to make us feel fabulous in the first weeks. Stay strong and on Sr

Ultimately it's your recovery MLC.

If anyone gave you a hard time it's cos we were really worried.

If you're happy, your husbands happy, your Dr's happy and your kids are happy, thats all the basics covered.

I hope you're working down to the prescribed dose of benzos - then you can start on whatever comes next

I'm working on it. It's hard. There's a particular detox
I want to
Go to
And you have to be down to
A certain level.

Trying to administer in the directed way too.

Hi Midlife,

Glad your here posting about your progress.

I remember my "brain in a blender" stage in early recovery...heck I still get episodes of it, but they are not as scary because I know they will pass.

Recovery doesn't happen overnight, like any big change it takes awhile for things to fall into place, and I know that I had a hard time being patient and keeping the faith.

Spending time reading and staying active on this forum has been a huge help to me. I borrowed hope and faith from the people here who had gone into recovery for me.

Midlife, have you joined a monthly support group here? And the thread for people under thirty days? THE thing that got me through the beginning was having a core group of the same people to support who also support me 24/7. I cannot recommend this to you strongly enough if you haven't done it. Plus helping others do this taught me how to do it too. Give it a try today.

MLC,

A week off of alcohol???? A few months off opiates????? Tapering off of benzos????

That's AWESOME!!!!

If you're tired and sleep half the day, it's probably cuz you need it. That's ok. You're body has been thru alot and its trying to mend.

I think your on the right track. Tapering to get into a detox sounds like a perfectly sound idea.

I'm glad you're not drinking and working on cutting down the benzos.

If you're bored, why not spend some time playing with your children. If you can't go out because of the flooding, you could watch a movie with them, make some cookies, hot chocolate - just a fun day with your children.

We ended up being able to get to a big swimming carnival that our eldest qualified for so that was good and we baked some
Brownies and watched movies. Actually they watched movies and I went to bed and listened to a podcast sermon. Find it hard to concentrate on movies these days.

I had my own dance party in the kitchen while
Making dinner loll. It's a good stuff that we normally do I just want to feel joy!

So glad to hear you sounding just that bit better MLC - I like the sound of your own little dance party in the kitchen :-) It's indeed those little, little things that we all need to do, in order to bring us back into growing within rather than stagnating and shrivelling under the weight of active addictions.

Thinking of you from Australia, luv
Vic
