Sometimes you're the windshield

Sometimes you're the bug.

Today I am the bug.

Woke this morning throwing punches in the air. I am taking the mood in stride though. High highs, low lows, anger.... All act in concert against my abstinence. So it's best I post it and set it free for the day. Let it go.

Happiness is a muscle we must use. I will do some flexing this afternoon to turn it around.

It's ok to be angry in recovery I think. I am angry at just the way this has all gone. The event in December has me pretty upset still. I cannot seem to escape the thoughts. Just sadness turned ugly and into this mood.

Typing it and seeing the words is helping. Time to shake it off and join the good folks in the weekend thread. Make a plan for this weekend.

Ken...Ride today out buddy. Like you said shake it off. What plans do you have for the week end?

Me. Tomorrow, home made baked beans, cornbread muffins and some walking dead to catch up on.

I will be around all week end. PM if you need to! seriously! Reach out if it gets to you!

Thanks! That means a lot to me Jim. I will.

No plans yet. Still noodling over what to do.

Baked beans sound awesome!

Beans are just a vehicle for bacon to ride on. It's in the Bible, you can look it up.

You can come help me grout. I am totally NOT looking forward to that. I will be very happy when it is done.

Sometimes mindfully observing the anger , not dwelling on the trigger for the anger helps me dispell it , switching my focus or perspective ... sometimes i just got to wait till bedtime and hope tomorow is a better day .

Bestwishes, M

Hey Ken, you hang in there now!

You know life has its ups and downs.....hell I can go from the depths of despair to giggling like a kid within an hour or so.

Forget the bug on a windscreen, I think of you striding forward and leading a lot of people in similar tricky weekend situations in that quest for a sober weekend.

Stride forward Ken. We are with you my friend x

On Quitting
by Edgar Albert Guest

How much grit do you think you've got?
Can you quit a thing that you like a lot?
You may talk of pluck; it's an easy word,
And where'er you go it is often heard;
But can you tell to a jot or guess
Just how much courage you now possess?
You may stand to trouble and keep your grin,
But have you tackled self-discipline?
Have you ever issued commands to you
To quit the things that you like to do,
And then, when tempted and sorely swayed,
Those rigid orders have you obeyed?

Don't boast of your grit till you've tried it out,
Nor prate to men of your courage stout,
For it's easy enough to retain a grin
In the face of a fight there's a chance to win,
But the sort of grit that is good to own
Is the stuff you need when you're all alone.
How much grit do you think you've got?
Can you turn from joys that you like a lot?
Have you ever tested yourself to know
How far with yourself your will can go?
If you want to know if you have grit,
Just pick out a joy that you like, and quit.

It's bully sport and it's open fight;
It will keep you busy both day and night;
For the toughest kind of a game you'll find
Is to make your body obey your mind.
And you never will know what is meant by grit
Unless there's something you've tried to quit.

Come on Ken, you are the inspiring Weekend Man! I saw this quote online and thought it meaningful: "Happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them". - Stacey Charter

Non... Very cool.

Like2 hike... Really cool perspective in that statement!

I am officially out of that mood. I won't waste time like that.

So .... What to cook... What to cook? Hmmmm.

Weasel glad the issue resolved. It took my moods a good six months to get back to where they were responding "normally" (for a recovering alcoholic). Then I had to learn what they were for and how to use them (LOL). It does get better!!

Instant... Agree.

Like has been said being mindful today. When I can see it and say ok.... I know that feeling. I can not react. I can just observe.

I hesitated sharing today. It was hard but I learned a lesson. Speak up.

I agree with mecanix. Get some sleep and hope for a better tomorrow. I am heading into my third week of depression and anger. I am not craving a drunk but I am craving a lift in my spirits. It's not coming. You sound good Weasel

escapist.... it is coming... and "hope for a better tomorrow" well tomorrow never comes. I was always going to stop drinking tomorrow.

Hope is today.... now... this second.

My anger today was out of fear... took a while to figure that out but i did. I fear being sober. I fear being alone. I fear.... NO!

I started to accept so called fear. I started to accept that it will be just fine. I think back and ask myself... self? ... have you ever not been taken care of? in some way and always I have been. so... I am.
