Faces of Addiction

Faces of Addiction - a set on Flickr

I hope this link to "Face of Addiction" works. It is a work of photography and writings about addiction in one of New York's poorest neighborhoods, Hunt's Point.

The writer says it's easy to ignore these faces......for me it's a good reminder.

Thank you, Kim - that will be painful to look at, but I need to. I'll go back & read more of the stories when I get chance. I never knew about Hunt's Point.

Cassie Rodenberg's Blog, 'The White Noise' is mentioned on that Flickr page too - it's very good. Glad you pointed this out, Kim.

Yes, Cassie Rodenberg's blog "The White Noise" is what I was referring to when I mentioned "writings"....could have made that point a little clearer. I really like her writing style.

I truly thought my story was tragic, until I read some of those. Thanks for posting this link. I am grateful today for where I am and now you have kept me
clean for yet another day. Gonna go pray for these folks. God Bless!

((Kim)) - Thank you for posting this. I went through a lot of it, before I left for work, and am going back.

Since I'm not "just" a codie in recovery, but also an RA, I "hear" my old words in many of their stories. It reminds me of how desparate I was to end the addiction but didn't quite know how to do it.

Thanks to SR and other support, I can read those words and think "but it gets BETTER if we just work for it"

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Amy, I too go back and look / read it. Makes me wish I posse of SR folks could tag along on these photo shoots and tell them about SR .

(Sorry, Kim - I see now that you mentioned her blog. I was in a hurry to click on the link )

I don't know that I would've ever become sober if I lived in that environment. Their eyes haunt me.

I know, makes me wonder what could break the cycle. Some of the stories make me want to pull my hair out - so stupid....people coming out of detox, with a few day gap between detox and rehab....and , in their fragile state, no where to go but Hunt's Point......DOOM
