I made it to Day 3!

Hello All,

I have been reading the posts the last couple of days and they help and also scare me.

I am 46 and have been a daily drinker for the last 11 years. Escalated in the last 2 years to downing a 1.75 of vodka every 3 days after work. Or as change up when I travel for work...4-5 double Jack and diets. Put on 35 pounds the last 2 years to boot. Alcoholism runs in the family and I have always been aware....but enough is enough!

I have not seen the nausea, shaking, sweats or any other symptoms of withdrawal. Is the other shoe going to drop soon? That is what scares me! What can I expect?

Thanks for your support!

Sounds like you are fine. From experience the first FULL 3 days of sobriety were the worst. By FULL I mean zero alcohol in my system. Not starting from the last bottle I finished.
From day 5 forward I was 95-100%.
The largest deterrent for me is how horrible I felt after my last 3 day binge bender.
The following days of detox were added to the list of the worst days in my life.
Good luck with your sobriety!!!

welcome to SR jessi
Like I said, some people have a comparatively easy run while others don't.

If you feel unwell, it's always best to seek medical help and professional advice.

we do have a thread here that will give you some idea of what some of us went through tho:

Warm showers help.

Itching and perspiring are withdrawal symptoms.

Just stay strong and stay stopped! You can do this!!!

PurplePower, how are you today?

Welcome PurplePower and Jessi!

The first couple days were the worst for me, too. I stayed on this forum and treated it like I would if I had a bad cold or flu (rest, fluids, good nutrition, vitamins - especially B vitamins)....... keeping the stress low and simple distractions (like TV) helped, too. Take it an hour or a minute at a time if you have to.

Each day gets better, so hang in there. And see a doctor, Jessi, if you feel really bad.
