Seeing an Addiction Therapist

I have my second appointment with my therapist today. He has me working on this book called Relapse Prevention Therapy Workbook. It is really good. I just started it, but so far it has me recognizing the signs BEFORE a relapse.

I am at 5 months next week and the desire to drink finally passed, but I want to do things differently and be PRO active and not RE active. I am doing step 6 with my sponsor Friday.

He is going to hypmotize me today. Does that sound weird? He said it is not like what you see on tv.

That sounds great. Hypnotism... I have no idea if it works, but why not? Can't do any harm. I have a friend who swears that hypnotism cured his insomnia.

How did you find your therapist?

I bet you have a lot of options given where you live.

What is that in your avatar? A bird?

Not yet. I will update today after I get back!

I am curious if anyone else is doing stuff like this to protect their sobriety. I feel like I need to guard it pretty carefully.

I had one on one sessions on relapse prevention with a local drug and alcohol agency. It wasn't that helpful but some of the CBT worksheets I did with them were great. I posted some of them here http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-thinking.html x

Elisabeth ~ THAT'S WONDERFUL!! I'm glad you are working with someone, I am too.

You know, whatever you think works for you, if you feel it doesn't be honest with your therapist. I have never tried hypnotherapy, but people do use it. At my office a lot of the counselors use EMDR which is kind of a hypnotic type of therapy, it helps the client focus on something else while they discuss their trauma so it's easier to deal with, a lot of the clients really like it.

I'm glad to hear that you're almost at five months, that is so wonderful!! Keep up the GREAT work!

Elisabeth, I'm so glad you're happy with the therapy and it's helpful for you.

And, I agree with you and I do take care of my recovery every day.

Elizabeth,
Congratulations on your 5 months, you've really worked at it. I like your idea of being PRO active, as opposed to RE active. Your new work book sounds very interesting.
