Had 2 glasses.... Day 1

I didn't get drunk but had 2 glasses of home made wine so day 1 for me again. I don't even like wine and have no idea why on earth my uncle asked me to taste to see how his wine came out and I did it. He has no idea I am a alcoholic. I am not going to say I am a failure, I hate myself, etc..... I made a mistake and I am here. By the way this wine should be illegal! The heartburn! I know it does not matter if I had 1, 2 or a bottle I still drank. I could have walked away and I didn't but after 2 I did. I can say I caught myself and said to myself what am I doing and I am happy about this. Day 1 for me. Instead of hating myself I can say I made the mistake and realized it and came where I am supposed to be which is here on SR. Time to go for a long walk and do what I had wrote down on paper on the fridge which is exercise, eat better, be happy and most of all in big letters I DON'T DRINK!

Have a great day everyone.

Today is day one for me, also. I didn't stop at two... but sure as hell wish I hadn't picked up the first. For me it wasn't wine it was really, really good beer... good beer that hit me fast and hard. By the 4th I couldn't stop... which led to the same ol' pattern. I used to get jealous of folks' with so much time... thinking "man, I wish that was me... how well they must feel!!!" So here I go, trying again... Way to go on stopping at 2. And I hear ya, red wine really led to some major stomach issues for me. The "I'm having a heart attack" heartburn...

Clight and Paddler:

Good job for realizing the mistake and catching yourselves -many times we must fail before we succeed. The best thing you can do from your mistakes is figure out how to not make them again....hopefully you learned something that will help next time you are in the same situation. Stay strong!

There is alot of information available about
addiction whether it be alcohol or drugs. I
had to be taught, fed information about my
alcoholism and absorb it before applying
it to my everyday life.

There are so many folks ahead of me that
I looked upon and clung to in early recovery.
Those who learned themselves how to stay
sober a day at a time. If they could stay sober
under all sorts of situations and not drink, then
I wanted to know how they were doing it.

I learned that it takes time, that i needed to
change some things in my life and look at
all those things I use to do and replace them
with healthier ways to live life without drinking.

At first I couldnt comprehend not ever drinking
again, yet I knew I was sick and tired of living
on that merry go round of insanity. I was taught
not to look head of myself but to stay in the moment
in order to achieve sober days.

That was 22 yrs ago as I continue to live in the
day and apply all that was taught to me from day
one.

Recovery is a journey and Ive finally learned
and accepted my new life as a sober member
of AA.
