Snowstorm Triggers

Day 3 has me thinking about triggers. I've had good and bad triggers the last couple of days. I think alot of us when someone says trigger thinks of the urge to drink although yesterday i heard a song on the radio that reminded me of the days of when i didn't drink. Is this a good trigger?Conversely one trigger that i associate with drinking (and it's kind of funny to say) is snowstorms. We have one on the way in Colorado and i have the urge to drink. There were days where it would be snowing and i would stay inside and get wasted. I try to use Deb's advice on wave analogy and how i felt the day after. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
Garrison

I can definitely relate to this subject.. Personally I can't have any booze in the house, if its not around I'm good.. Don't think this storm will do much in the metro area.. It's a classic upslope and they are saying its going to really accumulate east of town.. Good luck!!

Hey my fellow coloradian....
I agree, I was thinking what would be better tonight then some beer with this snow storm when I get out of work... Its a trigger for me also. Not to mention it is my "friday" at work. Trying to focus on what I am going to do... watch a movie, eat such and such... helps. I have to tell my AV it just isn't happening. I am only on 17 days myself so that is the only advice I have... Another one of us... Yay!!!! Where I live snow is considered "the very greatest thing ever" so I know what you mean. Just as the OP said I used to barricade myself in the house with alcohol and have a snowstrom party... really hope to make it to day 18...it is a huge trigger for me. Thanks for the congrats though.

It's not odd at all. When the blizzard hit the east coast recently there was a thread of people all who felt the same. Me included.

When I lived in Maine snow storms always were a party time.

Stay strong and post here to work through any cravings!

Welcome to SR!

Thanks Dave & Jess
Dave - Yeah i think you're right it does look like most of the snow is going to get dumped in NE and KS. I've been waiting for one of these storms to go south of us for some classic upslope.
Jess - That sounds like a plan watch a couple of movies is a good way to stay focused. Hitting the slopes for some skiing is always fun too. I'm playing v-ball tonight so that should be fun.
I'm not sure if either of you are from the Denver metro area but have you gone to any meetings or is anyone out there willing to go with me. I'm a newbie to the meetings although i have tried numerous times to dry up. I feel like i need the interaction with people in the same "boat".

I'm up north so I go to meeting in Boulder every day.. I've been going since Dec 26th and its done wonders for me.. I'm always open to checking out different meetings so PM me and we'll find a meeting somewhere off I25! Bring your rock skis this weekend, snow really stinks the 3 times I've been.. Wish I had a private jet, I'd be headed to the San Juan's.. They are expecting feet!! Always the case! Just hard to get there..

I am planning a visit to Denver in April and hoping I like it enough to move there.

Since there are three CO folk here can I ask if you like the area?

Yes i've lived here for over 7 years and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. The economy is really starting to rebound here and there is alot of development. The outdoors is right at your doorstep which is pretty nice! Are you moving for work?

@comtnman-
Addictive Voice Recognition Technique. It is essentially a tool of Rational Recovery. No meetings just changes in thinking.

I am moving for sanity.

Excited to visit and look around. I want to move ASAP but be sure the area is for me.

Thanks for the info!

I know what you say about snowstorms being a trigger. I well remember making sure I was fully stocked before one hit. Funny thing is we have the same one ready to hit here tomorrow and I have no desire to do so. Thought I might have to go out 4-wheeling afterwards. At least this time I won't be wasted when I do it.
