Day 17
Day 17
This marks my longest stretch of sobriety since I left out-patient rehab in 2005. I honestly don't recall how long I stayed sober then. 6 weeks, maybe.
I wanted to mark the occasion with it's own thread because YOU PEOPLE gave this to me. Sure, I was the guy who didn't pick up the bottle, but you taught me how to be good with that. I learned it right here in this forum.
I've never been sober longer than 3 days without having my next drunk planned.
Until now.
The freedom is exhilarating. Thank you.

Stopped at the grocery on the way home to get some steak and shrimp for a special Valentine dinner. Went looking for ginger ale and wound up in the beer and wine aisle - just passing through. I've spent quite a lot of time in that aisle on previous trips to that store, and I don't think I've ever left it empty-handed before.
My beast was really stimulated by being there. My AV went haywire telling me to just grab a couple of beers. I told him to get stuffed, but it was a little shocking to me how excited that summanabotch got just from walking down that aisle. WOW!

Yeah, I had to stay away from the beer/wine aisle for a long time.
Big congratulations on your recovery. I'm so glad that SR has helped you to get to this point. And, how sweet of you to make a special valentine/engagement anniversary dinner.

This is great Non!! I hope your dinner was wonderful. What did you decide on the anniversary/valentines gift for her? Whatever it was I'm sure she loved it. She stuck it out...and you made things right. This is a beautiful story. Congrats to you both!
because I used that the other day and it worked wonders and made me giggle, so Thanks! I think I need to research this AVRT stuff a little more.
I have written that line a few times, but it's a loaner from [BeastMaster] Weasel1966. He turned me onto the concept about 2 weeks ago,and I found it so motivating I have re-shared it a few times.
Congrats NS! I see your posts and how fearless and compelling you are with beating the beast, and know we aren't doomed
Bless that wife of yours. And hold her tight. I bet she can't believe she has the man she said yes to back tonight!
