Did anyone read....

The Good House by Anne Leary. I'm just a little over 3 weeks sober and I think if I read this while I was drinking it would have really scared me!!!

Not yet, I'm re-reading Under the Influence by Milam and Ketcham. Did you read that one?

What can you tell me about The Good House? Would you recommend it?

I would - it was about (fiction) a woman who went to rehab and then started drinking in secret while everone thought she was sober. There were other story lines, but this was the prominent one and the blackouts she had and what she did during them really scared me. I've had a few and could only imagine them getting worse if I continued...

I have not read Under the Influence, but i will!

Just a note about that book, Under the Influence was published in the 80s, and you can sometimes tell by the references. Despite that, (it apparently turned some people off) I still found it a fascinatingly scientific explanation on the effects of alcohol on alcoholics, and the difference with non alcoholics.
I'm not a scientist or a medical authority, but it made me wonder why 30 years later, not much seems to have changed in the debates they raise in the book.

Our perception of alcoholism hasn't changed much, despite all the research.
(I'm reading it for a second time) Let me know what you think of it!

I think reading Biographies, non-fiction and fiction about what happens when someone is using can be a real eye opener. I read a few Bios when I was in treatment and it was encouraging to read their stories and then how through all the obstacles they came out ahead. I got a lot from reading them.

Thanks for the suggestion, will check it out! I loved Dairy of an Alcoholic Housewife and highly recommend it.
