OT - Thailand

Two weeks before Christmas I got a short notice invite form a friend to travel to Thailand for three weeks in January. Having an increasingly crappy attitude towards cold weather I said oh he!! yeah! Stayed in Hua Hin, Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Bangkok. What a hoot that place is. I only got in one day of diving and the conditions were not that great, but at least I know where I want to retire. Koh Tao is the closest thing to Bora Bora I've seen to date but a lot less expensive.

pics and clips....

Don't ask.

Koh Nang Yuan, interesting factoid, the only place on the planet where three islands are connected by a sand bar.

Care to guess the gender of these subjects?

Haha @ the squatting toilets.

Did you happen to see the stamp wells at the post offices there?

I didn't have a need to hit a post office while in Thailand. Do tell?

Oh my gosh!
I lived on Koh Tao island for about 6 months. I lived at Tah Toh Lagoon.
I will never ever forget it & those pics were a reminder of my diving travelling days. I know it's changed quite a lot from the days I was there but the memories are forever.
Thank you.

They don't lick their postage stamps because it's disrespectful to the king (his picture is on the stamps). They use sponges and water.

Wow.... just, wow. While in Koh Tao I had epiphany. If I ever get laid off I'll cash in all my chips so to speak, sell the house and liquidate my assets and move to Koh Tao where I can stretch my dollar and slow the cash drain to a drizzle living in paradise/divers paradise. Get a job at a dive operator running a cash register and refilling tanks until all my money runs out. Then come back to the states and live with one of my sons. LOL.. seriously it IS one of my plans. I lost count at around plan J or K so I can't tell you which plan.

I obviously need more interesting friends. Most I ever get is an invitation to go have coffee. Maybe sometimes lunch.

Looks like a great time. Beautiful scenery!

You have a standing invite to come capture DC on film anytime you want. Got plenty of room here.

Funny Jazzman.
I went for 2 weeks, stayed 6 months.
Took diving all the way from open water to dive master & then worked taking out divers.
Didn't get paid much but it was enough to pay for accomodation & food & allowed me to stay there.
I became like family to the awesome Thai family that owns a big part of the island including Tah Toh Lagoon.
I have travelled some of the world. Thailand is my favourite & most visited place. Koh Tao was so special & living the island life where all you need is food & shelter was a valueable experience.
Big Buddah was also fascinating & I truly believe it has a spiritual presence.
So glad you enjoyed some of the places I visited.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Wow, Jazz! Very cool opportunity! Thanks for sharing with us. AT this point in my life, I have to live vicariously through others, so I am most appreciative of the armchair tour through Thailand. So beautiful!
