Oldtimer or Newcomer
I've been clean and sober for 23 years. Along the way in recovery, I've uncovered other, lesser, addictions like food and shopping. But only recently have I faced my life long sex and love addiction. After getting over "sticking my nose up" at SLAA meetings, I've discovered that this addiction has always been the heart of my problem.
Make no mistake, I was a bad drunk and drug addict. These were not "lesser" addictions; they were my primary problem. However, in going deeper, in working the steps and being open to the true nature of my character defects, I was able to see my pattern for sex and love addiction.
In "The Doctor's Opinion," he refers to an obsession of the mind and an allergy of the body. It's the same with all addictions, including sex and love.
